We are all aware that the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is becoming more widespread and intense. It goes without saying that the safety and health of our staff, clients and guests is of paramount importance to us.

As a media organization, DAAR Communications PLC has an important role in supporting the global narrative and response to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, whilst we keep our operations afloat, we must be upfront about how this outbreak is impacting our operations and relationships with stakeholders. One of the best advice we continue to provide all our stakeholders in staying healthy is to wash their hands with soap and water and where this isn’t possible, is to use hand sanitizers which are readily available throughout the organization (studios, meeting rooms and offices)

This announcement is to keep you, as a stakeholder of DAAR Communications PLC, informed of our plans and actions to support you during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the rapidly evolving situation, we have taken several steps to ensure that no matter how this scenario unfolds, our services to you are not interrupted whilst our commitment to reducing the potential exposure of our community remains paramount.

We have set up a dedicated webpage to reflect DAAR’s position, following the announcements and advice in Nigeria. Please consult for latest updates on DAAR’s approach to COVID-19. A summary of the main changes is provided below:


Our broadcast schedules and programming will be modified to protect our staff and content partners. As such our presentation format shall be adjusted to reduce undue exposure and our terrestrial broadcast times shall now be limited from 6am to midnight. Our satellite transmissions shall remain uninterrupted.


We have scaled down our operations to essential newsroom operations, presentation and transmission staff coming in to work. All members of staff who are not required to come into our broadcast facilities to fulfil their role should work from home if possible. In the interest of health and safety, each employee is responsible for disinfecting door knobs, computer keyboards, etc. before they leave. We are working with our mail and package delivery firms to be sure that there is no interaction with their employees and ours. We are stocked up on disinfecting solutions and wipes.


For the next several weeks, we’ve instituted a “work from home” policy and a shift policy in our office. Only one employee is working in our office at a time to handle tasks that cannot be handled remotely from home. If you call our office, someone will be here to assist you. If you send us an email, we’ll respond to you as quickly as possible. However, our offices are closed to visitors for the duration of this pandemic.

Independent Producers

All independent producers of non-live content are advised to submit their materials via our dedicated Dropbox account. Please consult our website for details on how to send content.

Studio Guests

All studio guests are expected to present themselves at our reception thirty (30) minutes before their scheduled appearance on set to complete our mandatory sanitisation procedure. We have taken additional measures by ensuring our cleaning and hygiene protocols are even more rigorous. We have increased the frequency of cleaning our studios and public areas (including lobbies, door handles, public bathrooms, etc.) and have increased the deployment of antibacterial hand sanitisers.

Temperature check is in place for all studio guests and members of staff at the point of entry. We are advising any guest or staff member who experiences a fever, cough or difficulty breathing to visit our on-premise medical facility. Protocols are in place, should an illness occur.


All recreational, religious and sporting activities are hereby suspended. Gatherings or meetings with over 5 people are to be conducted virtually, postponed or cancelled until, at the very earliest, the 20th of April 2020.


We trust that the measures we have put in place are temporary and that regular services will resume as soon as the spread of COVID-19 is contained. We will continue to monitor the situation, implement alternative plans as appropriate, and update you if there are any changes that could impact how you relate with us.

While we feel confident that we have taken the appropriate steps to continue supporting our audiences and our clients, DAAR Communications PLC will keep monitoring the situation as it evolves, evaluating and testing scenarios that could arise, and adapting our contingency plans to address those scenarios.
